Presentation – “About Douwe (Dex)” with Douwe (Dex) Dijkstra @ Prince Edward Room, St George Leagues Club
Apr 14 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Douwe (Dex) is a professional senior
graphic designer based in Sydney.

Born and raised in The Netherlands,
he relocated downunder in 2003
and now calls Australia home.

Photography is a strong passion for Dex
and he picked up his first camera at the age of 12.
Over the years his hobby has evolved from taking
family snaps with his grandfather’s camera, to
creating black and white fine art in the digital age.
In recent years his focus has been
on mobile phone street photography.

Dex prefers to shoot in monochrome
as he simply finds it easier to capture the
essence of a scene in black and white:
colour is just a distraction.

He won the black and white category
in Australian Photography Magazine’s  2015
Photographer of the Year
and has since become a judge
for this well respected competition.

Workshop – Portraits and Lighting with Louise Bagger @ St George Leagues Club
May 7 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

We are excited to have award winning photographer Louise Bagger join us for a Portrait Workshop on Saturday the 7th of May at 1pm.

See below on what Louise will be presenting on.

For a general overview of what I will be presenting:

  • Basic fundamentals of photographing portraits
  • My approach to portrait photography
  • The gear I use – camera and lights
  • Shooting with lights in studio and on location

Since launching my photography business in 2009, I have developed a solid client base working predominately in  Corporate, Commercial and Event photography.   I also work in the genres of Portrait Photography and Editorial Photography.  My work has been recognised and awarded at State, National and International levels.  I am currently based in Australia’s national capital, Canberra.

My strongly imbued work ethic can be attributed to my 15 year career with the Royal Australian Navy. I am punctual, professional and courteous and I pride myself on how I relate to my clients. I always strive to approach each commission with enthusiasm and originality.

I am proud to have served as a Director of the National Board of the former Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP), and as National President from 2019 to 2021.

I have worked with some amazing people throughout my photography career and now in my new home, I continue to broaden the scope which also includes Sydney connections.

I very much enjoy presenting for photography workshops.  I am available for small groups, 1 to 1 tutoring and photography clubs.

If you would like to attend please email Dave our Registrar on registrar@stgphoto.org.au. Payment is only $45 for 3hrs.

Presentation – Using textures to enhance your images by Sandra Dann @ Prince Edward Room, St George Leagues Club
Jun 23 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm

We are exited to have Sandra Dann present to us about all things textures. We are looking forward to seeing how this can help in our own photography.

Sandra has an online shop with many great resources and products. Check her out at:

Using textures to enhance your images is way of bringing life to photos that would be otherwise sitting in the archives. Using Textures is more than putting a texture over a photo at the end of the processing workflow. You can use textures at the beginning, to add depth of colour or add a tactile appearance. I love creating art, mixing textures and elements together and working in photoshop is the way I can do this. I get excited when I have a photograph and I start adding textures, changing, and bringing it to life in ways I never imagined. This really makes my soul come alive and gives me direction in my art. This workshop is for the Photographers, any creatives – who want to learn to combine colour and texture to create Creative Images.

In this workshop we will cover:

  • When to use Textures for your creative images
  • What photos work or not work for Textures?
  • What kind of Textures to use for your creative images?
  • What texture to choose for a tactile appearance
  • Creating Texture Art – using multiple textures, brushes, and other techniques

Here are some images where I have used Textures in my workflow to create Texture Art, the possibilities are endless.
